Galway 2 Dublin Charity Cycle
Welcome to the home of the Greg O’Toole and Declan Scott Memorial Galway to Dublin Cycle in aid of St Francis Hospice Raheny and Pieta House.
Date of Cycle - 28th July 2017
In 2013 we lost our dear friends Greg O’Toole and Declan Scott to two of the most common killers of our society; cancer and mental illness. Unfortunately these horrible illnesses have impacted all too many of us, so in an effort to help those affected, we have undertaken an annual charity cycle to raise much needed funds for our chosen charities; St Francis Hospice Raheny who took great care of Greg in his final months, weeks and days and who continue to do great work on a daily basis for many more people in his situation, and Pieta House who do amazing work with those suffering from mental illness across Ireland and who have helped over 20,000 people in suicidal distress since opening their doors in 2006.

Who We Are
Our group consists of friends and family members of Greg and Declan, friends of our’s who never knew Greg or Declan but after seeing the work we have done in previous years have been inspired to join us, and some of our friends who’s own families who have been affected by these illnesses and who have had their own connections with the charities.
Our cyclists range from the age of 15 all the way up to 74 and we have an amazing support team without whom all of this would not be possible. We are a close-knit group who support each other every step of the way. In doing so we ensure our event is as enjoyable as possible for all involved and we believe in having a good time in honour of our very much loved and missed friends.
What We Do
When we set out to raise funds for our chosen charities in 2014 we wanted our fundraising event to be one in which people of all ages and all levels of fitness could partake in and after careful consideration a cycle from Galway to Dublin was agreed upon. Thankfully this choice has proven to be a success and year after year our group of cyclists has grown.
The build up to our main event consists of a lot of planning and organising, training sessions, bake sales, bucket shaking in local shopping centres and even some dips in the cold Irish Sea! We set off on our journey from Galway travelling as far as Tullamore where we rest up for the night only to continue our journey back to Dublin the following morning. Upon arrival back to Dublin we are given a warm welcome home by our friends and family where the fund-raising continues by way of a raffle.
Both St. Francis Hospice and Pieta House are only part-funded by the government and rely heavily on donations such as the funds raised through our events and we are proud to say that to date we have raised approximately €45,000.
